Sloths have an unusual method of camouflage. Cracks in their hair allow many different species of algae and fungi to grow which makes them appear green. Some species of fungi living in sloth fur have been found to be active against certain strains of bacteria, cancer and parasites! Sloth hair also provides home to an entire ecosystem of invertebrates — some species of which are found nowhere else on earth (like the ‘sloth moth’). Kangaroos, wallabies, and emus at the zoo with my Sharon Art Studio friend. So nice to create together again! This was from November, when the SF Zoo was still open. I'm really grateful we were able to go several times before it closed again.
Carrots from the Marin Agricultural Institute Bounty Box I signed up for so that I can get out for a good bike ride once a week. I used to get my weekly ride in going to the art studio. This needs more darks, but time and energy have seriously been low this last week.
My friend Steve from the art studio suggested we do studies in blue in honor of the #lightitblue campaign. Just when I was needing some inspiration! These are the late afternoon tree shadows at the foot of my garden.
3/17/2020 San Francisco. The art studio is closed because of social distancing for the Coronavirus. My teacher sent out a note with a sketch she did and suggested we do a drawing a day during this isolation, to stay calm and creative and maintain our community. A neighbor put out a bucket with free bouquets, and it inspired me to pause while I was getting dinner started and do this instead. Definitely rusty after not being in the studio for two weeks!
